Speaking Part 1: Clothing

 


1. Do you prefer to wear comfortable, casual clothes or smart clothes?

Vocabulary:

  • casual wear, smart outfit, formal attire, laid-back style, business attire

  • practical vs. stylish

  • dress for comfort / dress to impress

Grammar:

  • "I tend to prefer [noun/gerund] because..."

  • "It depends on the occasion, but generally I go for..."

  • "If I'm going out, I usually opt for..."

Idiomatic Language:

  • “I like to keep it low-key.”

  • “Comfort is key for me.”

  • “I’d rather be overdressed than underdressed – better safe than sorry!”


2. Do you spend a lot of time choosing clothes?

Vocabulary:

  • fashion-conscious, indecisive, last-minute decision, mix and match, outfit planning

  • wardrobe, outfit of the day (OOTD), personal style

Grammar:

  • “I usually take around [time expression] to decide what to wear.”

  • “It takes me ages / It only takes a minute...”

  • “I’m quite quick because I have a go-to style.”

Idiomatic Language:

  • “I just throw something on.”

  • “It’s not rocket science for me.”

  • “I don’t sweat the small stuff when it comes to clothes.”


3. Do you like wearing T-shirts?

Vocabulary:

  • breathable fabric, graphic tee, plain T-shirt, cotton, versatile, wardrobe staple

  • dress down, layer with

Grammar Prompt:

  • “I absolutely love wearing T-shirts, especially when...”

  • “They’re perfect for [weather/situation] because...”

  • “Although they’re simple, they go well with almost anything.”

Idiomatic Language:

  • “They’re my go-to for everyday wear.”

  • “You can’t go wrong with a classic white tee.”

  • “I live in T-shirts during summer.”


4. What kind of clothes do you like to wear?

Vocabulary:

  • minimalist style, trendy clothes, oversized, fitted, chic, streetwear, athletic wear

  • dressing up vs. dressing down

Grammar:

  • “I’m into [noun/gerund] like...”

  • “I usually stick to [adjective] clothes because they make me feel...”

  • “Depending on my mood, I might wear either...”

Idiomatic Language:

  • “I like clothes that make me feel like a million bucks.”

  • “I dress for the weather and my mood.”

  • “I’m not a slave to fashion, but I like to look put together.”
